Hyne Group Vertically Integrated for Sovereign Supply Security

March 20, 2026

With 144 years of experience through world wars, global recessions, natural disasters and more recently, the COVID 19 pandemic, the Hyne Group remains an Australian manufacturer, providing stability, certainty, and quality supply of its timber and landscaping product range.

Its sawmills in Maryborough, Queensland and Tumbarumba NSW predominantly manufacture timber framing for the construction sector. The pine plantation feedstock is all locally grown from seedlings to harvest as part of a 30-year, renewable cycle.

From the manufacture of high-quality timber comes lower grade industrial timbers and by-products derived from different parts of the pine log. For example, the bark and other residues from the logs feed’s the landscaping businesses, providing home garden care products and other commercial potting mixes for growing Australian food while timber for pallet manufacturing supplies pallets to many leading Australian food producers.

With its own distribution centres networked throughout the Eastern Seaboard and long-term freight suppliers, the company optimises distribution and maximises freight efficiency.

Hyne Group CEO, Jim Bindon said the Group had actively sought to improve its vertical integration for sovereign supply security since COVID,

“Our acquisition strategy has transformed the business in just a few years from a timber manufacturer to a vertically integrated supplier of construction timbers, engineered wood products, pallets and garden care products, all Australian grown, supplied and networked for in-house supply security.

“It is this integrated supply chain that gives Hyne the certainty to support all our customer base, access additional raw materials to expand output as customers grow or in response to when other supply chains falter.

“Certainly, right now, doubts over the import supply chain for many products highlight the strength in sovereign manufacturing capability, and Hyne stands ready to increase supply in response to this.

“With the support of our UK based parent company, James Jones and Sons Limited, a business with a 185-year family history in timber processing, we have been able to grow our local strength including the establishment of Hyne Pallets which now owns six pallet companies across Queensland, NSW, Victoria and Western Australia.

“Importantly, what were six individual pallet companies, are now six networked pallet manufacturers and distributers under one ownership structure which also owns the sawmills here on Australian soil, providing certainty for the key raw material supply chain required to be a critical supplier of timber pallets.

“We have evolved, increased resilience and remained agile for 144 years and we intend to be here for at least another 144!” Mr Bindon said.

The Hyne Group thanks its valued customers who continue to support Australian made softwood framing, XLAM’s mass engineered timber solutions, softwood pallets and our landscape and garden care range under the brands Rocky Point and Bassett Barks.
