Over 140 Years of Growth
Hyne Group’s roots trace back to the establishment of Hyne Timber in 1882.
As a dynamic collective of Australasian businesses, the Hyne Group’s first acquisition was XLam back in 2012—signifying its foray into mass timber. Since then the Group has expanded into the gardening, agricultural, and pallet sectors through the acquisitions of Rocky Point, Rodpak, and Express Pallets highlighting its ongoing evolution and commitment to diversification. As it continues to pursue strategic growth opportunities, Hyne Group is dedicated to reinforcing its leadership across various industries, including construction, agriculture, pallet solutions, and landscape.
1882
R.M. Hyne establishes The National Saw Mill on the banks of the Mary River in Maryborough, marking the founding of Hyne Timber and the beginning of what would become the Hyne Group.
1960
Hyne Timber increases their stake in the pine plantation industry. In the 1960s Hyne drove the adoption of treated timber.
1986
Hyne Timber builds the Tuan Mill, which becomes one of Queensland's largest timber mills and remains a key operation to this day. During this period, Hyne Timber also begins producing glue laminated timber (GLT), marking an Australian first, as well as the Group’s entry into the engineered timber products market and setting the stage for future innovation in timber manufacturing.
2001
In 2001 Hyne Timber expands their operations with the addition of the Tumbarumba Mill in New South Wales.
2003
In 2003 Hyne doubled down on sustainability with 100% renewable softwood. The early 2000s also saw Hyne introduce the blue dye into their treatment, setting a tone that others would soon follow.
2012
XLam joins the Hyne Group and enjoys secure access to high quality raw materials from Hyne Timber’s local sawmills, as well as a new state-of-the-art automated 16,000m3 Wodonga site that adds serious CLT manufacturing capacity.
2019
2019 started with $24 million investment as Hyne Timber commissioned the expansion of their GLT plant in Maryborough, and positioning the business as the biggest manufacturer of GLT in Australasia.
2020
No one could’ve predicted how 2019 and 2020 would pan out with Hyne Timber experiencing 15 months of unprecedented salvage of 1.6 million burnt plantation pine logs, followed by the effects of the pandemic. Despite ongoing adversity, in 2020 Hyne introduced the Tumba robots, a world-first, fully automated sorting and packing production unit for graded timber.
2021
The Continuous Drying Kiln (CDK) was commissioned at the Tuan Mill. This marked a $14.5million investment into the site, resulting in an increase in production that helped to better meet the needs of a booming market.
2022
Marking Hyne Timber’s 140th year, Hyne Group announces partnership with UK-based James Jones & Sons Limited (JJSL), bringing together a combined 320 years of family-owned sawmilling heritage to pursue growth opportunities.
2023

A family-owned business based in Queensland since 1949, Rocky Point supplies premium quality products to the retail garden, nursery, agriculture, home gardeners and erosion management industries and like the Hyne Group, prides itself on sustainably and locally sourced feedstock.
2024
Hyne Group announces that pallet manufacturing will soon be a part of the broader Group operations, following the acquisition of Rodpak and Express Pallets & Crates. Similar to the rest of the Hyne Group, both companies pride themselves on strong sustainability credentials and a commitment to producing premium quality products.
